If using Google Maps, please search us by name (Stay Gallery) instead of by address, as the address is pinned to a home several blocks away. We are located in Downtown Downey between Creamistry and Avenue Press.

Parking

Free street parking can be found on Downey Ave, in the public parking lot by Grocery Outlet (on Firestone Blvd), or in the public parking structure on 2nd & New St. next to LOOK Cinema.

Accessibility

Stay Gallery is located on ground level and is accessible to wheelchair users from the main entrance on Downey Avenue. Trained service animals are welcome. If you have any questions or specific requests, please contact us for assistance before your visit.

Policies

Materials

In most cases, registration includes all required art materials and equipment, unless otherwise stated. Specific instructions regarding materials can be found on each class information page. Students are always welcome to bring their own materials.

Drop-Ins

At this time, we do not offer drop-ins for classes that require monthly or semester tuition. We highly encourage you to register early due to limited capacity.

Refunds & Cancellations

Monthly / Semester Classes – Cancellations must be made seven (7) days before the start of the first class for a full refund to be issued. No refunds will be provided for no shows or cancellations made within seven (7) days of the start date. Please keep in mind that last-minute cancellations prevent other students from participating in the class.

Figure Drawing Classes – Cancellations must be made with at least 24 hours notice for a full refund to be issued. Refunds will not be issued for no shows or same day cancellations.

Emergency Circumstances – We understand that unforeseen emergency circumstances may prevent a student from attending or completing a class. Cancellation requests that fall outside the above policy will be considered on a case by case basis, with any issued refunds provided in the form of class credit.

Stay Gallery reserves the right to cancel, modify or reschedule classes with low sign ups or for unforeseen circumstances. Students will be notified at least 24 hours notice and full refunds or class credits will be provided.

COVID-19 Policies

An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. Please stay home if you or your child are sick or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

  • Face masks are strongly encouraged inside.

  • Students are recommended to be vaccinated and boosted.

  • Hand-sanitizer stations will be accessible throughout the space.

  • Frequent cleaning and disinfection before, during and after classes.

If you test positive for COVID-19 after visiting Stay Gallery, please contact our team at (562) 774-2056 so that we can implement COVID-19 safety procedures and contact exposed students and staff to limit further spread.

Figure Drawing Conduct

Figure Drawing, nude or clothed, is a sacred and sensitive practice. Please keep in mind that class conduct is based around respect for the model – the model is placing themselves in a vulnerable position for the benefit of the artists and creative process. It is expected and understood that all students adhere to the following code of conduct:

  • Do not touch the model, no exceptions.

  • Do not make comments on the model’s appearance or body.

  • Do not take photos or videos of the model, or ask the model if you can take a photo of them.

  • Do not invade the model’s personal space before, during, or after the class. This includes sitting on the model’s stand.

  • Do not speak to the model (unless first spoken to) before, during, or after – other than a polite “thank you” at the end of the class. If a model is comfortable, they may approach you about your work, but this interaction should never be initiated by the artist. If you have a question, please see the onsite teaching artist.

Please treat this class as a professional and educational environment. This will allow for everyone to create, learn, and grow in a safe space. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding!

Waiver

Likeness & Appearance

You understand that you and/or your child may be included in recordings, streaming, photographs and/or videos created during this event. You agree to have your name, face, likeness and appearance used in advertising and promotion related to Stay Gallery.

Liability

Please be mindful of the gallery space and artwork. We kindly ask that you do not touch the displayed artwork or gallery walls. You understand that you will be liable for any damage to the space and/or the artwork caused by you or anyone under your supervision.

COVID-19

You acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and that an inherent risk of exposure exists in any public place where people are present. You further acknowledge that although Stay Gallery has taken all preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19, there may be a risk of becoming infected as a result of the actions or negligence of yourself and others.

Waiver, Release & Hold Harmless

You agree to release, waive and hold harmless Stay Gallery and its respective departments, partners, sponsors, directors, officers, representatives, members, agents, contractors, subcontractors and employees (hereinafter collectively “Stay Gallery”) from all liability, claims, penalties, costs, losses, damages, expenses or judgements (including attorney’s fees and costs) resulting from illness, injury, death or damage to yourself, any visitor, third parties or personal property of any kind in any way connected directly or indirectly to you and/or your child’s attendance of a class/workshop at Stay Gallery, whether caused by Stay Gallery’s active or passive negligence or otherwise.
