Feature Story: Roy Anthony Shabla Press Release

Stay Gallery is proud to announce the opening of Roy Anthony Shabla / Artist-in-Residence

Roy Anthony Shabla is a Downey-based painter, poet, and filmmaker and is the first artist-in-residence at Stay Gallery.  During the studio portion of his residency, Shabla created eighteen-foot paintings and junk sculptures.  One large painting was a collaboration with the people of the City of Downey.

Besides the Community Paint Day, his residency included student workshops and educational film nights.  It was an active and full residency.

Starting on Friday, January 13th, the formal exhibition of his work is open to the public.

The reception begins at 8pm with food and drink and live music by Esmoladera, Corbo, and Courtaud and Bobtail, three exciting local bands.

The gallery will also show a short, silent, art film by Shabla.

Preceding the opening, Shabla and his assistant, Gabriel Armenta, will perform, be interviewed, and play music on the radio show, The Weather Report with Dusty Clouds.

Come celebrate Downey’s Favorite Son and local artist, Roy Anthony Shabla, with an evening of art, music, and film.
